Press Release for immediate publication:

Enter the afterbirth at Anne Zander is MOTHER, a 2024 CoHo ClownFest postpartum comedy!

Le Why Not Productions proudly presents this “raw and primal and side-splittingly funny” solo show from physical comedy powerhouse, Anne Zander, Sunday, September 22 at 7:30pm at CoHo Theatre.

Are you pregnant? Recently given birth? Never want kids? This show is for you! But it’s ESPECIALLY for you if you’ve recently given birth and are currently stumbling through the haze wondering, WTF??

Pumping breast milk to a sick beat! Ass shaking in mesh underwear (IYKYK)! Fluids from the body and beyond! Called a “gay show” and a “sexy show” by audiences, this sweaty, hysterical, wet, messy postpartum clown* comedy is darkly hilarious, yet undeniably familiar to anyone who has ever given birth.

She takes things we as a society don’t like to talk about, or only talk about in whispers… and amplifies them to the most outrageous extreme you can imagine. She’s a clown, so it’s funny, but it also has the effect of making you feel not alone in your own essential weirdness.”

Krista Garver, BroadwayWorld

Ultimately, we all came from someone who passed through this bizarre, un-talked-about rite of passage, and only Anne Zander will lay that experience out in its unbearable rawness AND make you laugh until you pee a little (or a lot, no pelvic floor judgment here) at its sheer absurdity.

*Think Natalie Palamides’ Netflix Special NATE over Bozo in the big top 🤡

Le Why Not Productions dissolves barriers between audience and performers, shines laughter into the dark corners of the human experience, and creates a space where contrasts collide and harmonize through the art of comedy.

CoHo ClownFest celebrates physical comedy, movement arts, humor, and fringe performance. Founded in memory of the late Phillip Cuomo’s vision for a CoHo circus, the festival is a four-week celebration of clown, community, joy and playful whimsy.

Anne Zander (she/her/hers) is a “completely ridiculous… completely vulnerable” actor, clown, solo-character creator and physical comedy teacher with an MA in devised, physical theater (Theatre Lab) from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. She studied clowning there and beyond with her award-winning teacher, Peta Lily.

Her “painfully funny” debut solo show —JUICEBOX— took Portland by storm in 2019 and was Official Selection 2020 at Chicago Sketchfest, Dallas Comedy Festival and HBO’s Women in Comedy Festival (Boston). The pandemic brought forth the digital works Do A Character and her longer, (in)fertility-themed Fertile Ground show, Prolific.

Her second solo show, Anne Zander is MOTHER, debuted at CoHo ClownFest 2023 and was an audience favorite at Fertile Ground Festival 2024. Called “raw and primal and surprising and side-splittingly funny” by BroadwayWorld, this show is headed on a Pacific Northwest tour in Fall 2024.

Anne performs regularly at comedy venues across Portland, teaches sold-out physical comedy and clowning classes in the Pacific Northwest, and is the real-life mother to twin toddlers, who made multiple stage appearances in utero but have yet to bring their own clown antics to the greater public.

Because of them, this show exists.
