“...Zander has eyes that pierce and the ability to register an overwhelming number of emotions at once...”
Press Release for immediate publication:
Enter the afterbirth at Anne Zander is MOTHER, a postpartum comedy!
The MOTHER of all clowns is on tour with her “raw and primal and side-splittingly funny” solo show, hitting Brooklyn Art Haus for one night only, Friday, May 16th at 7:30pm.
From the mind that created the “painfully funny” smash-hit JUICEBOX (Official Selection 2020 HBO’s Women in Comedy Festival), and the body that birthed twins 3 years ago, comes a show that is clown, character, truth and fantasy, all rolled into one woman, dancing to the beat of her own breast pump.
Called “poignant,” “sexy,” “genius,” and “hysterical” by audiences, this outrageous, wet and messy postpartum comedy is darkly hilarious, yet undeniably familiar to anyone who has ever given birth.
“She takes things we as a society don’t like to talk about, or only talk about in whispers… and amplifies them to the most outrageous extreme you can imagine. She’s a clown, so it’s funny, but it also has the effect of making you feel not alone in your own essential weirdness.”
Only an artist as “completely ridiculous [and] completely vulnerable” as Anne Zander will lay out postpartum in its unbearable rawness AND make you laugh until you pee a little (or a lot, no pelvic floor judgment here).

“Zander is a master at identifying the essential weirdness of the human experience… and [she] amplifies them to the most outrageous extreme you can imagine. She’s a clown, so it’s funny, but it also has the effect of making you feel not alone in your own essential weirdness.”

“... hysterical, sweet, poignant, and deeply representative of what it’s like to bring children into this world.”
— Laurel Wilde, Audience Member
“I don’t have kids. I will never have kids. As I watched Anne’s powerful and moving performance in MOTHER, tears welled up in my eyes and, for the first time, I felt real compassion for my own mother. Anne’s performance pulls no punches and gives an experiential vantage point into a world we don’t often get to see. My mom and I have a complicated relationship but through Anne’s evocative performance, I felt a real healing occurring. It opened something up in me that took me quite by surprise."
— Patti Ibanez, Audience Member
