Enter the afterbirth!
Anne Zander is
MOTHER
A Postpartum Comedy
Created and performed by Anne Zander. Filmed by Olivia Bayer & Peter Robertshaw. Edited by David Wester.
Enter the afterbirth at Anne Zander is MOTHER, a postpartum comedy!
Portland’s physical comedy powerhouse brings her “raw and primal and side-splittingly funny” solo show to a town near you in 2025!
From the mind that created the “painfully funny” smash-hit JUICEBOX (Official Selection 2020 HBO’s Women in Comedy Festival), and the body that birthed twins 3 years ago, comes a solo show that is clown, character, truth and fantasy, all rolled into one woman, dancing to the beat of her own breast pumps.
Catch the only postpartum comedy that audiences are calling, “sexy,” “poignant,” and “a show unlike any other!” Relate deeply or have your mind blown wide open, and then laugh until you pee a little (we won’t judge your pelvic floor strength here).
“Zander is a master of physical comedy... at the same time as she's completely ridiculous, [she] is also completely vulnerable.” — BroadwayWorld
"...Zander has eyes that pierce and the ability to register an overwhelming number of emotions at once..." — Exuent Magazine
"Anne Zander... brilliantly portrayed the struggle between levity and darkness... particularly powerfully done, and very moving." — Backstage Pass
"… Zander is manic, but brings a fantastic energy to the stage in everything she does." — View from the Gods
Anne Zander (she/her/hers) is a “completely ridiculous… completely vulnerable” actor, clown, solo-character creator and physical comedy teacher with an MA in devised, physical theater (Theatre Lab) from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London. She performs regularly at comedy venues across Portland and is also the mother to twin toddlers, who made multiple stage appearances in utero but have yet to bring their own clown antics to the greater public.

Praise for MOTHER:
“Anne Zander is MOTHER is raw and primal and surprising, and side-splittingly funny…
“Zander is a master at identifying the essential weirdness of the human experience… and [she] amplifies them to the most outrageous extreme you can imagine. She’s a clown, so it’s funny, but it also has the effect of making you feel not alone in your own essential weirdness.”
“... hysterical, sweet, poignant, and deeply representative of what it’s like to bring children into this world.”
